2/23/04 -- The Car Arrives
This batch of photos is from the day we received our car (chassis #65).  I don't have much to say, but the pictures should tell it all..

My first view of the car.

The car has been unloaded from the truck (you do have fork extensions on your lift truck, don't you?).  The way the car is wrapped it reminded me of the old movie "Invasion of the Body Snatchers".  You be the judge.

The car is still on the pallet, but we've un-wrapped it.

We've taken the tail off (10 minutes, 2 guys -- can you say "Camlocs"?).  The board on the transaxle was intended to support the tail during shipping.  It didn't work.  The tail rode on the x-axle shift mechanism and the tail developed a stress crack from pivoting on that single point.

Here you can see our buddy John Church grimacing as the car dangles on an A-frame lift.  The object to the lower right is the mobile stand we're going to put the car on.  As you can tell, the car is a bit nose-heavy without the motor.

As you can see, we managed to get the car on its stand.  Actually it was pretty easy.  One thing though, the stand is built to raise the car 24" off the ground...great for a formula car, but you can't reach into the cockpit with all the sports racer bodywork in the way.  I might be lowering the stands.  We'll see.

And finally for this installment, here you can see the nose of the car really well.  It has a big splitter and, though you can't see them, two diffuser tunnels molded into the undertray.  I believe this car will generate some serious down-force.

More to come in a day or so.
