Chronological Build

4/04 -- On the Home Stretch
Naturally, we we're working on the car up to 4 hours before we had to leave for our first race in Atlanta.  The pictures below document that final assembly and setup.

It never fails...regardless of how much lead time a person has, there seems like there is always a "thrash" the day/night before you have to load the car into the trailer.

One of the smarter things we did was to put in a remote booster/charger jumper system for the battery.  Here you see the cables lying on the floor and leading to an "Anderson" plug on the right side of the picture.  We used this jumper a LOT.  Even though we're running an alternator with the smaller pulley, we found that it was very important to keep the charge up on the battery.

Here you see John Church (on the left) and Robert lowering the car off its shop cart.  FWIW, the 24" high shop cart may be perfect for a formula car, but it's too high for a sports racer (you can't reach into the cockpit with the car on the stand and the bodywork on).  After the Atlanta race, I lowered the cart (and transaxle cart) to an 18" height...works well.

And, for the first time, the new black "10 Car" (chassis # 65)  hits the ground.

As this picture clearly shows, the supplied rear "lift ears" don't do much good.  We made another set and mounted them higher on the wing.  I'll provide a picture of those new ears the next time I update this page.

I'll also show you what we did for a front quick jack.  So far both jacks work great.

Now it was time to roll the car up on the alignment platform.

Here you can see John Church helping us set the toe while Robert supervises.  You can also see the toe bars we got from Comprent Motorsports.  They work well.  One other thing--this is the first time we've used cloth fishing line (for catching "Muskies") and the elasticity of that line really makes setting up the toe strings easy.

Also note that it's now dark...the night before the car has to leave for Atlanta.  But we made it and the car ran great!
