    Sports Renault Update
This years pro Sports Renault series will be much different than last years
SCCA Pro Sports Renault Challenge.  The 1988 Sports Renault Challenge, as its
officially titled, will be run by the SCCAs Club Division and will feature $5,000
purses at each of seven races, one in each SCCA Division.  The Sports Renault
Challenge will run as a race-within-a-race at a premier National in each division.
The series schedule should be available before early March.

A reminder:SCCA Enterprises no longer tests and seals Sports Renault engines without also
rebuilding them.  A new SCCA Enterprises-sealed engine costs $1,495.  A rebuilt
engine is $1,095 with exchange. The first
SCCA Sports Renault Festival will be held Aug. 5-7 at St. Louis International Raceway.
The festival will feature a pro race, but will also include special non-racing
    activities.
Sports Renault No. 492 was shipped in late
January.  SCCA Enterprises Zan Smith projects the company will sell a total of
about 40 kits in 1988.  It appears that weve saturated the market for
current racers, so were looking to develop a market for those who have never race -
or considered racing - before, Smith said.

    Name the Sports Renault Contest!!!
Renault has asked SCCA to remove the Renault name from Sports Renault, and since
Sports doesnt quite get it, SCCA needs to come up with a new name for
the class.  Zan Smith suggested we have a contest to rename the class.  Send in
    your suggestions.
By the way, as soon as the new name is decided,
Sports ReNews will change its name to reflect the new name.

    Sports Renault Changes
Editors Note: Shown below are updates to changes listed in 1987.
    15. Aluminum Wheels - These wheels are an option to the steel wheels.  Machining is
    not allowed.
    17. Steering Wheel - The steering wheel is made
by a different vendor and no longer has the Renault logo in the center.
    18. Fire Extinguisher - The fire extinguisher is
vendored now with a domestic company rather than a European one.  The bottles mount
in the car more safely and can be refilled less expensively.
    19. Radiators - The two plugs on the transmission
cooler are no longer required.  The cooler is not used.
    20. Floor Pan - Two pieces are used on the floor
pan rather than one.  This was begun at the end of RJS building.
    21. Shocks - The shocks are shipped with about
1/4 inch less threads for adjustment.  As soon as the springs sag, the ride height
    can be adjusted low enough.
    22. Tach - The tachs coming from VDO now have two
needles rather than one.  The second needle can be set for red-line.
